Devblog 13 - A Week of Systems, Stability, and XP Madness

Sorry for the late devblog - this week was a long one. A couple of 3-4 AM nights were spent pushing to get the new skill system finished and the servers stable again for everyone. But the grind paid off. This was one of the biggest foundational updates Morndale has seen so far, touching everything from crafting to notifications to XP events.

I know I had originally planned to continue work on guilds, but with multiple reports of items not processing correctly and the old skill backend causing multiple issues, it became clear that getting the core systems ironed out was the higher priority. Stability first - then expansion.

Major System Overhaul: New Crafting Backend

The old crafting system was… rough. It caused items to disappear, crafts to fail, and generally created a clunky experience. This week, the entire backend was rebuilt from the ground up. The new system is far more reliable, easier to expand, and sets the stage for future recipes, tools, and production mechanics.

  • New crafting backend fully implemented
  • Fixes long-standing issues with lost items and incomplete crafts
  • Provides a cleaner, more scalable foundation for future content

Quality of Life Improvements

Alongside the big systems work, a ton of smaller improvements landed this week to make the game feel smoother and more consistent.

  • Login timer extended
  • “Remember Me” login finally fixed
  • Item values reworked for better economy balance
  • Equipment page updated to properly display all skill boosts
  • Guild Hall boosts fixed
  • Spears and new tools now correctly apply bonuses
  • Basic Workbox updated to affect only production skills (Smelting, Weaving, Woodworking, Tanning) with a reduced 3-5% bonus
  • Alchemy bug fixed: Fine Stone Dust no longer claims to craft Abrasive Powder

Notifications & XP Events

A brand-new notifications framework has been added, giving players clearer feedback on what’s happening in the world around them. On top of that, XP events are now fully supported, and the current 2× XP event is already live. Perfect timing for all the new recipes coming soon. I'll be working on adding Auction House notifications here soon!

Looking Ahead

I’d love to say this upcoming week will be focused on guilds… but realistically, it won’t be. Before expanding outward, I want to polish what’s already here. Recipes need to be finished. Monsters need a full balance pass - including the monster page. Several systems could use a facelift, and there’s some backend cleanup I want to tackle before stacking more features on top.

I’m also hoping to roll out new quests and get shops into a better state so they aren’t just flooded with random items. The original vision for Morndale was to blend idle gameplay with meaningful interactive content - something to fill the 6-9 hour gaps while skilling. To get there, the current systems need to be solid, stable, and enjoyable.

It’s going to be a big week of recipes, polish, and prep for future content. With the 2× XP event running, I hope you’re all racking up progress for what’s coming next.

Thanks for your patience, and again - sorry for the delay on this devblog. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
